BRIDGE

BRIDGE

BRIDGE is currently implemented in 14 transboundary river and lake basins in Latin America, Africa and South East Asia.

It is based on a strategic approach which:

  • Utilises demonstration: making cooperation operational in a basin through joint action.
  • Facilitates learning: through training and capacity building for multiple stakeholders, across multiple scales.
  • Fosters dialogue: for consensus building through demonstration actions and learning.
  • Implements leadership programmes: to empower Water champions.
  • Provides advice and support: on-demand technical assistance

Team

The team of the BRIDGE Project embraces different branches of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

IUCN Environmental Law Centre

The ELC is a programme unit of the IUCN secretariat and an internationally recognized centre of excellence for the conceptual development and implementation of environmental law. It coordinates the promotion of environmental law as a tool for sustainable development and resource governance. It acts as the secretariat for the WCEL, and works in collaboration with the whole of IUCN, together with many other partners from across the globe.

The ELC plays an active role in the context of water law and deals with multiple topics (i.e. the effects of climate change over water resources, the sustainable and integrated management of freshwater and other natural resources, transboundary water governance, the human right to water and sanitation, etc.).

The ELC is the management unit for ECOLEX, a comprehensive webbased information portal on environmental law.

For more information visit the ELC website.

Global Water Programme

The IUCN Global Water Programme is a trusted partner for action and knowledge on sustainable water resource management.

Bringing together an extensive network of IUCN Members, experts, government and private sector partners, its work focuses on promoting good water governance, implementing nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation, protecting freshwater biodiversity, and supporting increased investment in ecosystems as natural water infrastructure.
